What is the Waikouaiti Market?

Held monthly at the Waikouaiti Event Centre, the markets are a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone. The event centre is wheelchair accessible, and because the markets are indoors, there’s no need to worry about the weather.

Each market offers a variety of stalls showcasing handmade and unique items. I also feature:

  • A BBQ at most markets

  • A small canteen with drinks and snacks

Supporting Local Artisans and Businesses

My primary goal is to help local artisans gain more visibility and increase their sales. The markets have become a space not only for artisans to thrive but also for the community to come together. I’ve even heard that local shops see a boost in business on market days!

In addition to supporting artisans, we’re also proud to welcome local service businesses and fund raising groups to have stalls. This creates a diverse and vibrant market environment while giving everyone in the community an opportunity to connect and share their offerings.

Otago Artisan Market - Waikouaiti Market - Dunedin

After moving to Waikouaiti, I identified a need for a space where local artisans could showcase and sell their work. This led to the establishment of the Waikouaiti Markets in May 2024. The markets support local creators and foster community by providing a venue for artisans to display their crafts. Each market day features a variety of handmade goods. They also encourage community engagement, allowing residents and visitors to connect with makers and learn their stories. Through the Waikouaiti Markets, we aim to create a sustainable ecosystem for artisans, contributing to the local economy and nurturing Waikouaiti's unique creativity.
